Bookclub members voted for October’s book, and the result was Mischief by Charlotte Armstrong, the book that was adapted to film in the Marilyn Monroe suspense-thriller Don’t Bother to Knock. The novel tells of a mentally unstable babysitter Nell (played by Marilyn Monroe in the film) who is asked to watch a young child named Bunny when the first babysitter cancels. Throughout the evening Nell’s behavior becomes more erratic, and there are fears for both Nell’s and the child’s safety.

Charlotte Armstrong (1905-1969) wrote 29 novels and became a successful mystery author. Her books thematically deal with domestic suspense that center around, what her song describes as “grisly crimes.” To learn more about this author and her works, check out her website.
This month, in addition to reading the book Mischief, there will also be an opportunity for a virtual movie night and discussion of Don’t Bother to Knock on Saturday, October 24. More details to follow, and don’t forget to sign up for our membership for even more exclusive offers and early bird access!
